One of my favorite parts of returning to the University of Maryland campus is seeing the great bustling, sprawling mall full of activities. There’s always something happening there — people walking their dogs, playing Frisbee or football, even having a Quidditch scrimmage.
I’ve actually been living right near the campus all summer, but I hadn’t done as much exploring as I usually would. So yesterday, when my roommate and I took an evening walk together as we like to do on quieter days, we were shocked to see the mall so…messy. It was pretty sad!
Here’s an aerial view from the McKeldin Mall web cam:
A sign near the sundial said they expect construction to finish in September. I hope they can achieve that goal. It makes me so sad to see! The mall was such an important place to me freshman year. During the first few weeks of school, that’s where I met and got to know people who later became some of my best friends in college.
